When I started DJing I never really thought about the logistics! I just wanted to play great tunes and make people happy ... I'm a simple soul really!

But as the inventory grows, PA systems get bigger and you just need that extra little disco light, the time comes to get a VAN!

What on earth do I know about vans!?!
What on earth do I know about vans!?!

Full disclosure - I am clueless when it comes to anything with an engine. Even as a kid, my toy train was a mystery to me. So when I started investigating what van I needed for the business, I was completely lost.

There is literally SO MUCH CHOICE! Short wheel base, long wheel base, side doors, double back doors, low mileage, high mileage, plywood bay, carpeted bay ... the list is endless.

The only thing that had no choice in the second-hand market was colour cos virtually everyone was WHITE!

"You can have any colour as long as it's white"
"You can have any colour as long as it's white"

The one thing I knew about vans is that I didn't want a white one. Nothing against people who have a white van, I can see how popular they are, but I didn't want one. Which narrowed the field significantly for me.

So colour sorted (black by the way), I thought I'd ask my mechanically minded brother in law his opinion. Big mistake. "Depends" he said. Gee thanks.

After finding and suggesting a Ford, "Unreliable. F.O.R.D. Found On the Roadside Dead".

After finding and suggesting a Vauxhall, a Peugot, a Renault "Hmmm well the thing is ..."

I have settled on a VW Caddy.

At the time of writing, I'm waiting for it to be ... er "prepped" I think is the technical motor-trade term and in a future blog I'll take you on my journey to Mansfield to collect it!

See ya HM x
